Biografie
Der in Brasilien geborene Bariton Leonardo Neiva ist bekannt für seine theatralische Präsenz und seine stimmliche Vielseitigkeit. Er begann seine berufliche Karriere im Alter von 23 Jahren und sang Figaro in Rossinis Il Barbiere Di Siviglia. Seitdem wurde er von Theatern in Brasilien und der ganzen Welt eingeladen.
2009 erhielt er den 12. Carlos Gomes Ward als bester männlicher brasilianischer Sänger für seine Leistungen als Le Grand Prêtre de Dagon in Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila, Aeneas in Purcells Dido und Aeneas sowie Kullervo (Sibelius).
Neiva wurde von Kritikern für seine Leistung als Ford in Verdis Falstaff mit dem São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESO) hoch gelobt. Er erzielte auch grossen Erfolg in der Rolle des Figaro wieder mit der Cia. Brasileira de Ópera und beim 15. Amazonas Opera Festival, als er an der Produktion von Wagners Tristan und Isolde als Kurwenal mitwirkte.
Ausserhalb Brasiliens debütierte er an der Ópera Nacional de Chile, in der Rolle von Zurga in Bizets Les Pêcheurs de Perles. Seitdem wird er regelmässig in dieses Theater eingeladen, wo er Nilakantha in Delibes' Lakmé, den Musiklehrer in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, Athanaël in Massenets Thaïs, Billy Budd und Mr. Redburn in Brittens Billy Budd verkörperte. In Portugal sang Neiva in Carmina Burana im Teatro Nacional de São Carlos de Lisboa. Im Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse trat er als Cecco del Vecchio in Wagners Rienzi (auf DVD vom label Opus Arte aufgenommen), Jacopo Loredano in Verdis I Due Foscari und Tom/Conte Horn in Verdis Un Ballo In Maschera auf. In Estland verkörperte er Giorgio Germont in La Traviata in der estonischen Nationaloper Tallin. Er sang auch John Sorel in Menottis The Consul, im Teatro Colón de Buenos aires und im Teatro Solis de Montevideo. Neiva ist auch in Konzerten in Italien, Spanien, Portugal, Argentinien, Kolumbien und den USA aufgetreten.
Neben seiner Aufnahme von Rienzi in Toulouse wurde auch die 10. Symphonie "Ameríndia" von Villa-Lobos mit dem São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra auf Tonträger festgehalten.
Er arbeitete auch in grossen offiziellen Broadway-Musicals wie Les Misérables und war 2018 der Protagonist des Phantoms der Oper in São Paulo.
In der Saison 2022-23 wurde Leonardo Neiva Mitglied des Ensembles der Estonischen Nationaloper Tallin, wo er die Rollen von Giorgio Germont, Giacomo in Verdis Giovanna D'Arco, Telramund in Wagners Lohengrin bis Ford in Verdis Falstaff singen wird. Seit September 2023 ist er Mitglied der Wiener Staatsoper.
Biography
Born in Brasilia, the Brazilian Baritone Leonardo Neiva is known for his theatrical aplomb and vocal versatility. He started his professional career at 23 years old, singing Figaro In Rossini’s il Barbiere di Siviglia. Since then, he has been invited by theatres in Brazil and abroad.
In 2009, he received the 12th Carlos Gomes Award as best male brazilian singer for his performances as Le Grand Prêtre de Dagon in Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalila, Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, as well as Kullervo (Sibelius).
Neiva was highly praised by critics for his performance as Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff, with the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP). He also achieved great success singing again Figaro with the Cia. Brasileira de Ópera, and at the 15Th Amazonas Opera Festival, when he took part in the production of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde as Kurwenal.
Outside Brazil, he debuted at the Ópera Nacional De Chile, in the Role of Zurga in Bizet’S les Pêcheurs de Perles. Already worked in great official broadway musicals such as: Les Misérables and in 2018 was the protagonist of The Phantom of the Opera in São Paulo.
In the 2022-23 season, Leonardo Neiva will be a member of the Ensemble of the Estonian National Opera Tallin, where he will sing the roles of Giorgio Germont, Giacomo in Verdi’s Giovanna D’Arco, Telramund in Wagner’s Lohengrin, Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff. Since September 2023, he has been a member of the Vienna State Opera.
